After months of leaks, promotions, and speculations, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has finally arrived. And true to the expectations from Samsung’s latest flagship, it undoubtedly boasts the best selection of specs we’ve seen on any smartphone till now.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, the flagship model of the S24 series, is set to launch on January 31st with a flat display (albeit with slightly thicker bezels), a new 50MP telephoto sensor, and a titanium frame.
What is the release date for the Galaxy S24 Ultra?
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S24 Ultra alongside the S24 and S24+ phones at its Unpacked event on January 17, 2024. They are set to be available on January 31st.
When it comes to raw power and performance, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra takes the lead with the Galaxy chipset, which is laced with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This is essentially an overclocked version of the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, making it arguably the most powerful chipset available on an Android phone right now.
With 12GB of RAM included, it doesn’t matter which storage configuration you choose (options are 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB), as the phone is geared up for seamless multitasking. On the software front, you’re in for a significant upgrade in the core Android experience, as Samsung has introduced ‘Galaxy AI’ here, setting the bar higher for the entire Samsung Galaxy S24 lineup.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Price
Samsung has maintained consistent pricing for the S series phones over the past few years, and this year sees a slight increase. The 256GB model of the S24 Ultra starts at $1,299.99 (a bit more than the $1,199.99 for the S23 Ultra). The price goes up for higher storage configurations:
256GB: $1,299.99
512GB: $1,419.99
1TB: $1,659.99
After the Unpacked event, the S24 Ultra is now available for pre-order. You can purchase it directly from Samsung.
We had heard that the S24 Ultra would be the first Samsung device with a 144Hz refresh rate, but the company has stuck to a maximum of 120Hz for now. Higher refresh rates provide smoother animations and movie playback, but they can impact battery life.
As always, the S24 Ultra is larger than the regular and Plus models, but it stands out in terms of camera capabilities, battery capacity, and storage options compared to the lower-tier models. However, this year’s features don’t seem significantly different from the previous year’s model.
Interpreter Works just like that but is tailored for personal conversations.
Chat Assist Uses AI to adjust the tone of text messages. For example, you can write a message and then ask your phone to make it serious, fun, or even Shakespearean, giving the text a new flavor.
Note Assist Automatically formats and organizes suggestions to make reading notes easy.
Image Capture and Edit Empowers the updated cameras of the S24 Ultra with AI to make taking and editing photos easy. In Unpacked, they demonstrated converting a video to slow-motion quickly. The Generated edit allows you to update and modify the background of a photo using generative AI.
Google Partnership Samsung has also showcased a new partnership with Google, claiming it will speed up searches. The Circle to Search feature allows you to circle an object or text on the Ultra’s screen to instantly pull up search results. Examples included searching for clothes and a purse from an image and looking for a thrift store from a text message.
The materials of the S24 Ultra have also been upgraded this year. The chassis is crafted from titanium (a first for Galaxy phones), and Samsung collaborated with Corning to apply the new Gorilla Armor on the display. This glass is robust and minimizes reflections.
